Nowadays a lot of scams are springing out everywhere. What’s worse? They are hard to bust without looking into them.

So if you want a legitimate way to earn money online, please check My #1 Recommendation. This is how I made a full time income at home and quit my 9 to 5 job.

If you prefer to read this review first, that is not a problem. I will tell you later on this review how I was able to make working at home possible. Now, let’s get started.

ONLINE WRITING JOBS REVIEW SUMMARY

Product Name: Online Writing Jobs (www.onlinewritingjobs.com)

Founder/Owner: Not disclosed

Product Type: Freelancing site

Price:  It is free to join.

Best For: Experienced writers looking for a part-time job

Summary: Online Writing Jobs is a freelancing site for writers who want to earn extra income online. It pays as much as $50 per article via PayPal or mailed check. It doesn’t hurt much to try this site since it is free. However, it doesn’t have 100% payment guarantee, which means that you can try it at your own risk.

Rating: 5/10

Recommendation: I do not recommend this site for the reason that it is very risky whether you will get paid or not.

What is Online Writing Job?

Previously known as QualityGal, Online Wirting Job is a content provider (also known as a content mill) where freelance writers can get some writing gigs. It was founded in 2006 and is located in New York City.

This site is basically for writers with strong skills and talent. It offers several writing gigs for very specific topics like automotive, education, medical, health, science, technology, and travel.

Unlike other platforms, it pays per project basis. The average payout ranges from $10 to $27 depending on the project specifications.

The registration is free, which means you don’t have to spend anything to register to this site.

To apply, you need to complete the application form which you can access after you provide your email on a side button at the Homepage.

The application form is very basic, which is very easy to fill out.

Aside from the basic information, the site will ask you to write a sample article. When accepted, you will get paid for $10.

However, take note of the disclaimer which says that once your article is accepted, you will no longer own your article. Treat it like a ghost writing gig wherein you will have to write the article but you will not have your original by-line on it.

A friendly tip: Online Writing Jobs will give you a task to write for a specific topic from Gettysburg Flagworks’ website which has a number of flags and descriptions you can draw inspiration from. When writing for your 500-sample article, you can take a look at what others have written.

The processing time for each application normally takes 1 to 3 business days. If takes longer than that, you can reach out to the company through their Contact Us button or the address provided in their site.

Above all that, the biggest question is – will this site really pay you? We will find that out later in this review.

Inside Online Writing Jobs

So far, I found nothing fishy in this site yet.

What’s good in this website is that it doesn’t promise you anything. Online Writing Jobs is a typical working platform where you can apply as a writer.

Let’s dig a little deeper into Online Writing Jobs.

Online Writing Jobs offers four categories to write on.

  • SEO Content
  • Copywriting
  • Bloggers and Influencers
  • Subject Specific Experts

SEO Content

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a unique type of writing wherein you will write an article based on a specific keyword. Sometimes, the client will ask you to do the keyword research yourself using SEO keywords search tools like Google Keyword Planner or Jaaxy. Other clients provide the keywords themselves.

Copywriting

Copywriting includes writing quality ads, emails, and many more. Unlike ordinary writing gigs, this is tilted more on the marketing side. You’ll need to write convincing copy that can get readers to take specific actions like opt-in to a form or buy something. Most of such writing requires years of experience and a writer who understand psychology aspect of a reader.

Bloggers and Influencers

Writing for bloggers and influencers is a niche-based writing. For example, if a bloggers promotes beauty products, you also need to be very good in writing beauty-related articles.

Subject Specific Experts

Similar to niche-based writing, this type of writing requires great industry-specified knowledge. For example, a dentist may require you to write emails for his clients, advising on specific issues such as about teeth whitening. These are mostly knowledge-base articles and writers are required to acquire in-depth knowledge in this domain.

Here are a couple more things that you need to know inside Online Writing Jobs.

Finding jobs – The good news is, this is not a “get rich in one day” site. This site requires hardwork and you will get paid for what you deserve.

Also projects are not assigned. You will need to apply for the job you think would best fit you.

The only disadvantage is that you will have a lot of competitors who constantly write for the same topic. So there is no guarantee you will get hired instantly.

Rigid Editorial Review – Your content will undergo a rigid screening by their editors. There is a high chance that your article will be turned down for simple grammatical errors.

If you are new to becoming a freelance writer, Upwork.com will be a better choice – less stringent with the opportunity to deal with client directly. Sometimes, when you have great attitude, clients will be more willing to give you extra jobs instantly.

Strict Deadlines – Expect to work with deadlines. Typically, content are submitted at 3pm Eastern Time on the day when it is due. Sadly, this site won’t pay you if your submission is late.

Clients – Online Writing Jobs will not disclose their clients. This means that you will never know who you’re writing for. Everything is done within the website.

Support – Customer support is only available between 8am to 5am Eastern Time every Monday to Friday. If you have any concern, you need to communicate it between these hours. If I were you, I would make sure to have my articles ready a day before the deadline.

Payment – Payments are paid through PayPal every Friday. I can’t say more about how efficient and trustworthy their word for income is as I couldn’t find any members from the site who could give a testimony about it.

Who is Online Writing Jobs For?

Online Writing Jobs is best for skilful writers who want to earn extra income online.  All experience levels are welcome on this site but the screening process and competition is too high. Writers with high-level experience will have more advantage than newbies.

Personally, if you have a very good copywriting skill and can write copy that convince, then it's more profitable to write for yourself to earn passive income.

The Truth About Online Writing Jobs

Truth #1: Suspicious Testimonials

As much as I want to say they are true, there is really no way to verify whether the testimonials on the site’s homepage are true.

Similar to Listverse and Textbroker, you will see nicely crafted testimonials and names but there’s no link to see whether the names are real people or they’re just made up.

In fact, there’s not much chatter about this site. Sometimes, it’s hard to believe whether a certain website is true to what it claims when the testimonials are suspicious.

However, I found one complaint from existing writers saying there’s never any jobs available, therefore this writer didn’t get paid despite trying for so many times. It’s a total waste of time.

I have also checked their Facebook and it seemed poorly maintained. If this site has strong credibility, it should have at least a highly engaging Facebook site.

Plus there are only less than 10 recommendations. If you would notice, one freelancer is speaking about how unresponsive the website is.

Truth #2: Lack of Payment Security

I tried to search for information regarding its payment method and how efficient it is but I have found nothing.

As I understood, this website doesn’t have its own payment platform where you can track your income. Here’s how it works.

You write the article, submit it, and Online Writing Jobs will create an invoice. Based on this invoice, you will receive your payment every Friday through PayPal.

While you will be given a copy of the invoice, there is no system that will secure your payment and guarantee that you will receive it every Friday. This means, you may or may not get paid at all.

However, this is only my personal opinion, and might not represent the truth.

Truth #3: Limited Payment Methods

Another thing that is very discouraging in this site is that it only offers two payment methods.  First is mailed check which takes 5 days processing.

Second is PayPal. If you don’t realize, PayPal takes 2.9 percent of the payment plus 30 cents per transaction before putting the money in your account. That means if your 500-word article is worth $10, you can’t expect to get it in full.

If you subtract the PayPal fee which is 2.9, you will only get $9.71. If the client charges 30 cents on your payment for the transaction, you will only get $9.41.

I just wish the site has other payment methods with zero or lesser processing fee such as direct bank transfer and many other options.

Things I Like About Online Writing Jobs

Here are a few things I like about Online Writing Jobs.

  • Weekly pay – You will get paid through PayPal or mailed check. Mailed checks take at least 5 days to receive, so I recommend that you use PayPal instead.
  • Updated blog – The site has an informative blog which will give you some tips on SEO writing. Here you will learn strategies on how to write really good SEO articles that pays. It’s like a free tutorial.

Here the things I don’t like about Online Writing Jobs

  • No Stability – Freelancing is not for everyone. It’s a win-win situation and you may or may not find a job. If you don’t have the experience, you can’t make this your main source of income.
  • Long holding period – There are times when positions are filled. When this happens, they will hold your application for 90 days and you would wait for 6 months before you can re-apply.
  • Only available in the U.S.  – I don’t like the fact that this site is only available in the US, which means if you are from another country, your application will be turned down for sure.
  • Pricing is not transparent – It’s hard to determine how much you will get for each article. The site decides how much you will get paid. You can’t even bid for the price unlike other freelancing sites.

Despite the fact that there some positive things about this site, I still would not recommend it especially for newbies.

Remember, this is only a freelancing site. Your article may or may not get paid depending on its quality.

Aside from that, there are many other freelancing sites that offer bigger opportunities for all levels of writers and they actually pay better.

Is Online Writing Job A Scam?

Online Writing Jobs is not a scam. It’s a great place for writers who want to earn extra income online.

I think the reason why it seems like a scam is because it’s often confused with other sites that have juggled their names just to make them look unique.

For example, there’s writing-jobs.net (Writing Jobs Online) and online-writing-jobs.com (with different url) which has an exactly similar name.

How I Start A Small Business Online

Working as a freelance writer is a good way to earn extra income online, but I prefer to earn passive income working for my own business.

Like you I used to work with my 9 to 5 job. In my quest for a legitimate business online, I also have encountered a lot of scams. This experience motivated me to start my own online business and earn a full time income, working at home.

Now I am helping other people start their own business online using the same strategy I use to start mine. If you want to earn full time income out of writing, you can check out my free guide.

  1. Hello Florence!!
Very glad to see another amazing review from you. Yes, there are so many online business opportunities that claims to offer the best income. Too bad most are likely to be scam. Sometimes, it’s just so frustrating to know there is never ending to these scam program. Thanks for your great review. Hope to see more soon.

    1. True, it’s indeed frustrating. Sometimes I get frustrated writing review of such products as well. However, in order to prevent more people from falling into the hands of such unscrupulous business owners, therefore I persist and continue exposing them. Hope there’ll be one day such program will be removed automatically by some AI system.

Sounds risky. Writing good copy requires a lot of research, time and editing. I’d think twice about spending all that effort and still having to compete with so many others on the site, not knowing if you’re work will be accepted or if you’ll get paid. What’s more, it seems that the moment you submit your work, you’ve lost all rights to it instantly. Even if it’s not accepted?

    1. I believe you still own the right to your work. Online Writing Jobs is a legit platform for writers to earn some extra money. But if you want full time income, then it can’t be a long term solution. It’ll be better for writers to try Wealthy Affiliate instead. At least it’s proven to help people make a long term business.

  3. Hi, Florence.
Thanks for sharing unbiased review of Online Writing Job System.
With absence of Founder’s information, uncertainty on payment after approval and limited payment method raised my eyebrow a little. My common sense slapped me to wake up after paying for so many scams ( though this site does not have joining fee) and guided me to look for the No-1 Recommendation suggested by you.
Thanks for saving my precious time once again.
    Warm Regards,
    Gaurav Gaur
